Attributed to original sourceRoma will be hoping to move into the Serie A top four in the penultimate round of 2025-26 fixtures, but they will have to do so against their archrivals Roma in the Derby della Capitale on this Super Sunday.
The Giallorossi are fifth on 67 points after 36 league matches of the 2025-26 season and currently find themselves level on points with the out-of-form Milan, who currently occupy fourth place. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side have won their last three Serie A outings and are unbeaten across their last five.
Lazio, meanwhile, already know that they have no chance of qualifying for Europe following their defeat against Inter in the Coppa Italia final on Wednesday night.
They were beaten twice over by the Nerazzurri in the space of a few days, as they also had to face Cristian Chivu’s double-winners in the league by coincidence last weekend. Maurizio Sarri’s side are in ninth place ahead of kick-off.
Pre-match reports indicate that Roma will have Lorenzo Pellegrini back and available for selection for Sunday’s derby. He is not expected to start, though, as Gasperini is most inclined to name an attack consisting of Matias Soule, Paulo Dybala and Donyell Malen.

(Photo by Alessandro Sabattini/Getty Images) Lazio have major injury concerns heading into the derby. They will be without both of their first-choice goalkeepers in Ivan Provedel and now also Edoardo Motta as well , which means that 24-year-old Alessio Furlanetto is expected to be handed his Biancocelesti debut in the derby.
Patric and Mattia Zaccagni are also unavailable through injury and Alessio Romagnoli is suspended, which means that there should be returns to the starting line-up for Nicolo Rovella, Boulaye Dia and Oliver Provstgaard instead.
Kick-off on Sunday is due at 11.00 BST.

What happened
Roma enter the Derby della Capitale in strong league form and still pushing for a top-four place in Serie A. Reports indicate Lorenzo Pellegrini is back available, although Roma are expected to start with an attacking trio of Matias Soule, Paulo Dybala and Donyell Malen. Lazio arrive after recent defeats to Inter and with significant squad problems, including injuries to Ivan Provedel, Edoardo Motta, Patric and Mattia Zaccagni, plus a suspension for Alessio Romagnoli. Those absences are expected to force changes in goal, defense and attack for Maurizio Sarri's side.
Chance analysis
This matters because the derby now has a clear team-news imbalance: Roma appear relatively stable, while Lazio are weakened in key defensive areas and possibly in goal. Losing both senior goalkeepers and Romagnoli materially affects Lazio's defensive reliability in a high-pressure match. For football models, confirmed or near-confirmed line-up disruption on Lazio's side should weigh more heavily than broad form narratives alone.
The likely effect is a relative pre-match boost for Roma and increased downside risk for Lazio's defensive performance.
Upgrade the importance of Lazio's defensive and goalkeeping absences and treat Roma's continuity in attack as a meaningful pre-match signal.
