Szczesny jokes Lewandowski ‘should retire’ instead of joining Juventus

Former Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has joked that his long-term Poland colleague Robert Lewandowski should retire instead of joining the Bianconeri this summer ‘because that’s when the best offers come in’.

Juventus and Milan are among the Serie A sides that have been linked with a summer move to sign Lewandowski , who is expected to leave Barcelona at the end of the 2025-26 campaign and will turn 38 in August.

The veteran centre-forward has still been in productive form over the last two seasons – 27 goals from 34 LaLiga appearances last season and 13 from 27 in the Spanish top flight so far this term, and his age is not a particular concern to clubs in Italy following the success that the 40-year-old Luka Modric has been in Milan this season.

Lewandowski still has plenty of options available to him approaching the summer transfer window, but former Juventus goalkeeper Szczseny, speaking from his own experiences, jokes that Lewandowski should retire this summer.

Szczesny decided to call time on his playing career after leaving Juventus upon the expiry of his contract in the summer of 2024, before coming out of retirement less than two months later to sign with Barcelona until the end of the 2024-25 season following an injury to first-choice stopper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

He has made 40 appearances across all competitions with the Cataland Giants since joining last October.
