Como president Mirwan Suwarso has revealed that Cesc Fabregas rejected approaches from three Italian clubs in recent months, including Napoli, before deciding to remain with the newly-promoted Champions League side.

Fabregas has become central to Como’s ambitious project after guiding the club through a remarkable period of growth, and Suwarso made it clear that the former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder is not looking for a new challenge.

“Several clubs have already asked about him, at least three in recent months, but he has refused,” Suwarso told La Stampa, via CalcioMercato . “One of them was Napoli, as had already been written in some local newspapers. The other two? One is Italian, but I won’t say anything else.”

The Spanish coach had also been linked with other Serie A opportunities, including the Inter job in 2025 before Cristian Chivu was appointed, but ultimately chose to continue building at Como.

“We wanted to do better than the previous year, but we didn’t think we would get this far,” Suwarso said. “Being in the Champions League allows us to improve our financial position. At the same time, we have to speed things up because we expected to reach this objective in a few years.”

Como are now focused on maximising their opportunity among Europe’s elite while maintaining the sustainable approach that has taken them from Serie B outsiders to Champions League contenders.

“We are the Italian team that has registered the highest growth rate in the value of our players: in two seasons we have gone from €60 million to €389 million,” Suwarso added.

“Commercially we grow by 300% every year. We are still the newcomers, but I would like to find another club that has grown as quickly as us.”

This is significant for understanding the managerial landscape in Serie A.
