Fiorentina humiliated 0-3 by Frosinone on centenary night

Fiorentina saw their Centenary celebrations ruined by a humiliating 3-0 home defeat to newly promoted Frosinone, as Antonio Raimondo scored twice along with Gabriele Bracaglia’s header.

Both teams lost the opening round, the Viola crushed 4-0 by Roma and still missing Moise Kean as he tries to force through a move to Como, with Fabiano Parisi injured. Frosinone had a similar issue with Fares Ghedjemis following their 1-0 defeat to Juventus.

It was a very special occasion , as Fiorentina celebrated the Centenary of their foundation, so legends were in attendance including Gabriel Batistuta, Manuel Rui Costa, and Claudio Ranieri.

The Viola responded, Albert Gudmundsson’s angled drive testing Lorenzo Palmisani after good work from Mateo Pellegrino, and Franco Mastantuono’s curler bending inches past the far top corner.

Gudmundsson did have the ball in the net on 19 minutes from a Mastantuono through ball, but started the run a little too early and was caught offside.

Alex Jimenez was booked for a reaction foul on Bracaglia, then Seydou Fini wasted a golden opportunity on the counter-attack by lacking the courage to finish it off.

(Photo by Gabriele Maltinti/Getty Images) Frosinone did take the lead moments later, as Kvernadze dribbled all the way along the by-line and pulled it back for Antonio Raimondo to prod home at the base of the near post from five yards.

Fiorentina were extraordinarily unlucky, hitting the same upright twice in the space of a few minutes. First Mastantuono shrugged off Gabriele Bracaglia with a lovely bit of skill to sweep the right-foot snooker shot onto the base of the far post, then moments later Victor Valdepenas prodded it onto the frame of the goal from close range, watching it ricochet into the grateful arms of Palmisani.

(Photo by Gabriele Maltinti/Getty Images) It proved decisive, because Frosinone doubled their advantage when Bracaglia was ready to nod in the Giacomo Calò corner kick from seven yards at the near bottom corner.

There was almost a third straight after the restart, Ilario Monterisi nodding inches over from another Calò corner kick, while Mastantuono swept first time just over from inside the area on the Valdepenas assist.

(Photo by Gabriele Maltinti/Getty Images) Frosinone went 3-0 up with a sensational goal from Raimondo, who chested down the Bracaglia ball over the top, let it bounce and smashed the half-volley into the roof of the net from a tricky angle with his left foot.

Mateo Pellegrino turned to flash the finish just wide of the near stick, while Kvernadze almost got a fourth for Frosinone with a shot charged down.
