The Corriere della Sera newspaper claims Inter are keeping a tight leash on spending because Oaktree are preparing to sell the Serie A club.

Oaktree had provided a loan to previous owners Suning, and when the Chinese company failed to keep up repayments, the team was effectively repossessed in the summer of 2024.

It always seemed to be the plan for the American investment fund to get Inter back on track, bring down their debts and boost revenue, so that it could be sold on at a profit down the line.

According to the Corriere della Sera newspaper , that time is fast approaching, because it is reported Oaktree are starting the process of finding buyers.

(Photo by Marco Rosi – SS Lazio/Getty Images) They have certainly steadied the ship, as for two years in a row they have been operating with a net positive of revenue to costs.

That is astonishing considering Inter ran at a loss of €245m in the wake of the pandemic in 2021.

The debt has been restructured and the building work is set to begin for a brand new stadium shared with rivals AC Milan.

It is not considered to be an urgent matter, but the idea of a sale has always been there for Oaktree.

What happened

Oaktree Capital Management, which currently owns Inter Milan, is reportedly looking into selling the club. The American private equity firm assumed control of the Nerazzurri after previous Chinese ownership Suning faced financial difficulties. This exploration of a sale comes amid Inter's continued strong sporting performance. Any potential change of ownership could have significant implications for the club's transfer strategy, financial fair play position, and long-term planning.

Chance analysis

Ownership changes at elite clubs directly affect transfer budgets, FFP compliance, and competitive strategy. For prediction systems, a potential sale creates uncertainty around Inter's spending power, though in the short term operations typically continue unchanged. This is primarily a boardroom story rather than a pitch-level one, so immediate match prediction impact is limited.

Impact

Potential change of ownership at Inter could alter long-term financial strategy, transfer market behavior, and competitive ambitions.
