Inter still pursuing Liverpool's Harvey Jones despite Arsenal competition

Inter’s interest in Curtis Jones remains active, but the Nerazzurri are unwilling to break the bank to land the Liverpool midfielder.

The England international has long been one of the leading names, if not the very first, on Inter’s list to bolster their midfield.

Jones is said to be particularly admired by head coach Cristian Chivu and keen on the idea of testing himself in Serie A.

Standing in the way, however, are Liverpool, who are reluctant to lower their demands despite the player having just one year left on his contract.

Sporting director Piero Ausilio addressed the saga at the Festival dello Sport in Parma a few weeks ago.

“A minimal gap? That’s what you say, the millions aren’t yours,” Ausilio said. “We were interested in January and we still are now. We tried and we’ll try again, if we meet on the valuation, good; if not, we’ll do something else.”

The distance remains significant. Inter have nudged their offer up only as far as €25 million , while Liverpool are holding firm at €40 million, a figure the Italian side have no intention of reaching.

Complicating matters further is the reported late entry of Arsenal, who turned to Jones after seeing Sandro Tonali’s price explode and a verbal £55 million bid for Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães rebuffed.

Crucially, Jones himself is said to favour a move to San Siro, with intermediaries for both clubs remaining in contact over the past week in an effort to bridge the gap.
