Milan 2-0 Venezia: Ramos scores first San Siro goal

Goncalo Ramos scored in his first appearance at San Siro, an own goal also giving Milan the 2-0 victory over Venezia after wasting several big chances.

The Rossoneri had their first home game of the season, which was also the opportunity to pay tribute to iconic captain Franco Baresi, who died on July 31 at the age of 66.

(Photo by Marco Luzzani/Getty Images) There were two changes to the side that beat Torino 2-1 , as Luka Modric and Davide Bartesaghi came in for Ardon Jashari and Pervis Estupinan, as Adrien Rabiot and Christian Pulisic were still not fully fit after the World Cup. Rafael Leao, Samuele Ricci, Fikayo Tomori, Youssouf Fofana and Santiago Gimenez were left out pending transfers. Venezia lost 2-0 at home to Lecce , still missing Andrea Adorante, Matias Moreno and Marin Sverko, but Ridgeciano Haps was preferred to Thierry Correia.

Goncalo Ramos wasted a couple of early opportunities, first scuffing the finish on a Ruben Loftus-Cheek pull-back, then springing the offside trap to force a desperate save out of Filip Stankovic.

(Photo by Marco Luzzani/Getty Images) Akor Adams also got away from the defence on a through ball, his angled drive smothered by Mike Maignan, and Stankovic was quick off his line to deny Strahinja Pavlovic when the defender ran into the box on a Bartesaghi pass.

Moments later, Pavlovic was decisive at the other end with a crucial block on John Yeboah after Adams failed to connect with the low cross, and Stankovic got down for a good reaction save on Ramos from 12 yards after a well-worked move.

(Photo by Marco Luzzani/Getty Images) Ramos was probably offside when he failed to connect with the Samuel Chukwueze cross from seven yards, but shinned another volley before Chukwueze fired straight at Stankovic.

Venezia were forced into a change in first half stoppages, as Bartol Franjic fell awkwardly and hurt his shoulder.

After the restart, Antoine Hainaut drilled across the face of goal when relatively undisturbed from a Haps cross, but Milan really should’ve scored when a free kick was knocked down into the path of Yunus Musah, who fired it onto the crossbar from six yards.

(Photo by Marco Luzzani/Getty Images) Alexis Saelemaekers came on and within 60 seconds his cross was nodded off target by Goncalo Ramos, but the deadlock was finally broken when these two combined again.

It was a counter-attack sparked by Saelemaekers, who cut inside and threaded a smart disguised pass for Ramos, who drilled the left-foot finish under Gianluca Busio’s legs to score from seven yards. This was the Portugal international’s first goal in the Milan jersey.

(Photo by Marco Luzzani/Getty Images) Yeboah fired into the arms of Maignan, and the goalkeeper rushed out into midfield to clear from Lion Lauerbach, but Milan doubled their lead in chaotic fashion.

It was another inspired Saelemaekers assist, this time the pass from midfield sending Ardon Jashari clear, but when his dinked finish was parried by Stankovic, it ricocheted into the empty net off the unfortunate Redouane Halhal.
