Napoli coach Allegri said on Sunday, after a 2-1 loss to Como at the Stadio Maradona, that McTominay had been struggling with blisters , which had prevented him from fully training with the rest of the team. McTominay started against Como, but was subbed off at minute 59.

What happened

Scott McTominay, who has been a revelation since joining Napoli from Manchester United, is to undergo a minor heart procedure. The Scottish midfielder has been a key figure in Napoli's Serie A campaign this season. While the issue is described as minor, it will sideline the player for a period, leaving Antonio Conte without one of his most influential performers. The club will hope for a swift recovery given McTominay's importance to their title push.

Chance analysis

Losing Scott McTominay to any absence is a blow for Napoli, given how central he has been to their midfield engine room since arriving from Manchester United. A heart procedure, even described as minor, adds a layer of concern beyond the tactical — there will be relief when the Scotland international returns to action. For Conte, it underscores the squad depth question that has quietly shadowed Napoli's title charge all season.
