Attributed to original sourceNapoli have agreed to send Nosa Obaretin to Lorient on loan with option to buy for €3.5m, after Sturm Graz had been in negotiations.
The 23-year-old defender has been on the Napoli books since coming to their academy from the Milan youth system in 2022.
He went out on a variety of loan experiences with Trento, Bari, and last season in Serie B for Empoli.
Lorient swoop for Obaretin
Sturm Graz had been in talks to secure the centre-back, but Sportitalia transfer pundit Alfredo Pedullà , followed by Fabrizio Romano , confirmed that Lorient had managed to get a deal done instead.
It is going to be a loan with option to buy at the end of the season for a fee of €3.5m, plus a cut of the future sale.
As Obaretin’s contract with Napoli will expire in June 2027, this means it must first be extended so that this formula can work.
Genoa and Udinese had also shown interest in the Italian-Nigerian centre-back, who has never played in Serie A.

What happened
Napoli have reached an agreement with Lorient for the transfer of Nigerian defender Obaretin. The deal is structured as a loan with an option to make the move permanent for €3.5 million. Obaretin had been part of Napoli's squad but now gets the chance to play regular football in France's top flight. The option gives Lorient flexibility while giving Napoli a potential future fee.
Chance analysis
Obaretin's move to Lorient reflects Napoli's tendency to loan out squad players to ensure they get competitive minutes rather than stagnating in the reserves. For Lorient, a €3.5m option is a measured bet on a young defender unproven in Ligue 1 — affordable but with a clear exit path if it doesn't work out. It's a low-risk, development-oriented transfer on both sides.
Obaretin gains first-team opportunity in Ligue 1; Lorient add defensive cover with a low-commitment buy option; Napoli trim squad and retain future sell-on value.
