Fiorentina have officially purchased Mateo Pellegrino from Parma for €24.5m, and in turn sent Roberto Piccoli to Bologna on loan with obligation for €18m plus bonus.

This was the key part of the striker merry-go-round that had been in the works for a few days in Serie A, as centre-forwards revolved between different clubs.

(Photo by Emmanuele Ciancaglini/Getty Images) Pellegrino had also been linked with Juventus, but ultimately it was Fiorentina who secured the Argentine for a reported fee of €22.5m plus €2m in add-ons.

It is a complete purchase, which allowed them to slightly lower the original asking price of nearly €30m.

Pellegrino scored 12 goals in 39 games for Parma last season between Serie A and the Coppa Italia.

At the same time, the Viola also announced that they had given their striker Piccoli to Bologna on loan with an option to buy, becoming an obligation if certain circumstances are met.

Sky Sport Italia report that the circumstances are for Bologna to simply remain in Serie A.

The merry-go-round isn’t finished, as Bologna are also ready to hand Thijs Dallinga to FC Koln in order to make room for Piccoli.

Meanwhile, Parma have also decided to loan Jacob Ondrejka to FC Groningen.

What happened

Fiorentina have confirmed the permanent signing of striker Luca Pellegrino from a selling club, while sending forward Roberto Piccoli out on loan to Bologna. The moves reshape Fiorentina's attacking options, bringing in a new forward while allowing Piccoli to gain playing time at a Serie A rival. Bologna add a young Italian forward to their squad for the season ahead.

Chance analysis

These are two separate transfer operations for Fiorentina. Incoming Pellegrino adds depth to their forward line, while the Piccoli loan to Bologna offloads a player not central to their plans and gives him minutes elsewhere. For Bologna, Piccoli represents a useful attacking addition on loan, potentially providing depth and competition up front. Both deals are officially confirmed, making them reliable for squad planning purposes.

Impact

Fiorentina gain a new striker option in Pellegrino while freeing up squad space by loaning Piccoli to Bologna.
