Inter had long been linked with a summer move for Udinese defender Oumar Solet, who is also of interest to Como and Atletico Madrid, but the Nerazzurri appear to be cooling off in their pursuit of the Frenchman. Here’s why.

Inter concerned about Solet price tag and knee On Tuesday, Inter bid farewell to four senior players whose contracts expired on the final day of June, and among them were three defenders: Francesco Acerbi, Stefan De Vrij and Matteo Darmian. 37-year-old goalkeeper Yann Sommer was also let go at the end of his contract.

For this reason, and as confirmed by Nerazzurri sporting director Piero Ausilio, Inter are targeting the signings of at least two defenders this summer.

Ausilio has also confirmed that Solet is a potential option for Inter this summer, but reports over the last few days indicate that talks between the Nerazzurri and Udinese have stalled .

Speaking at an event in Rimini earlier this week, Ausilio said: “Solet, like many other players, can be an opportunity, but he is not the only one. Besides, I am by no means certain he can be the right one for us, let’s just calmly see what the transfer market brings, but we are in no rush and can begin pre-season with the squad we have.

“We do intend to sign two new defenders, though.”

Solet, 26, is into the final year of his contract with Udinese and Inter had been prepared to offer around €20m to lure him to San Siro this summer.

Additionally, Il Messaggero reports that Inter have doubts about Solet’s physical condition, with fears that there may be a chronic issue in his knee cartilage, which could potentially limit the impact and the number of minutes that the Frenchman would have in San Siro.

Meanwhile, the latest updates claim that Como are also interested in a potential deal for Solet this summer. Both Como and Inter are also said to be keen on the signing of Chelsea and England centre-back Trevoh Chalobah, who, however, is reportedly valued at €40m.

Reports suggest factors such as valuation, competition from other clubs, or squad planning considerations are causing Inter to reassess. Solet, a French-born defender, has been a notable performer for Udinese, attracting interest from multiple Serie A clubs. The cooling of negotiations could open the door for other suitors or lead Inter to explore alternative defensive targets.

Chance analysis

Inter's reduced pursuit of Solet signals a shift in their defensive recruitment strategy. If Inter drop out of the race, alternative centre-back targets may become priorities, affecting Udinese's leverage in any potential deal. For match prediction systems, this transfer development has limited immediate impact but could influence Inter's squad depth in the long term.

Impact

Inter's defensive transfer plans may pivot to other targets, while Udinese retain Solet unless another buyer emerges.

AI Insight

Inter are unlikely to sign Solet in the near term, so prediction models should not factor in his arrival for upcoming fixtures.
