De Rossi: 'Como impressed me so much, on another level to Genoa'

Daniele De Rossi admits Como are ‘the opponent who impressed me the most since I’ve been at Genoa’ after running out 4-1 winners. ‘They are on another level right now.’

It has truly been a tough start to the season for the Grifone, who have lost all three Serie A matches so far, even if they were tricky fixtures against Napoli, Lazio and Como.

They did score their first goal of the Serie A campaign with new signing Milutin Osmajic, who made the most of the high Como defensive line to tap in the Lorenzo Colombo roll across from the left.

However, Como ran out 4-1 winners with an Assane Diao brace, Martin Baturina and Nico Paz on target.

(Photo by Simone Arveda/Getty Images) “It’s true that we had started well, but also true that against a team like Como, you need to be perfect for 90 minutes,” De Rossi told DAZN Italia.

“We had taken the lead, which was the hardest part, but they are perhaps the opponent who have impressed me the most since I’ve been at Genoa. They impressed me collectively and with their individuals.

“We stayed in the game, but there was never the sensation we could open the result up unless an incident went our way.”

“It’s difficult against Como, as they can pass it around you, so we were trying to press them, but if your line isn’t perfect in defence, they will make you pay more than any other team. It’s hard to be aggressive against them, when we did do that, we tended to give it straight back, whereas they were much cleaner in their passing,” added De Rossi.

“Sometimes you lose and get angry with the referee, or with yourself, sometimes you just have to admit the other team is better, the other coach is better, and Como are on another level right now.”

“It’s my squad, they have what it takes to get points in the games we need. When it comes to fighting for safety, you can have runs of bad results, but the transfer market is over now, we know who we are, and those in the stands cheering us on are fundamental.

“We know there are things to improve, we always hoped to get points against the bigger clubs, but these were different matches. I was disappointed with the first half against Lazio, I felt we deserved something from the Napoli game, whereas against Como I felt honestly they were just so much better.”
